It’s a short phrase but not always easy to live by. I often hear people say, “So-and-so never got back to me,” or “It’s been a week, and I still haven’t received feedback.”
My first question back is always, “Have you been a good partner with your communication?”
For me it is easy to point out where others fall short, but real partnership starts with what we bring to the table, and I can bring more for sure.
Are we following up when we say we will? Are we giving updates, even when there’s not really anything new to share? Telling someone I have no feedback yet, is feedback.
Strong relationships are built on mutual respect and need to be nurtured. I think sometimes members get so worried about making the placement that they forget about the relationship.
If each one of us would take ownership of our part we would see more happening.
