You know the saying…’all good things must come to an end’. As so it goes for NPAworldwide. As you are likely already aware, Marcia Bateman will be retiring after nearly 37 years with us. She has been the backbone of the organization - connecting members, helping them be better partners, and generously sharing her wisdom along the way. Her famous ‘Marcia-isms’ are well known throughout the network and have been repeated countless times to the benefit of our members.
Marcia’s long and storied career with NPA began in the print shop where she printed résumés, job listings, and stationery for members - and even served as the building’s maintenance person. (Those who know Marcia’s knack for fixing and restoring things won’t be surprised by that last part!). She was the first woman hired in the print shop, and quickly rose to manager, overseeing the merger of the distribution and printing functions. The combined operation, interestingly enough, result was called NPA Central Distribution.
In the late ‘90s, NPA transitioned to floppy discs and desktop computers. Around that time, Marcia began her legendary one-to-one calls with members - and, as they say, the rest is history.
Marcia’s compassion and empathy have helped her build long-lasting friendships with members and staff alike. In my short time of just a year and a half with NPA, I’ve received countless unsolicited notes from members praising her assistance and calling her a treasure. We couldn’t agree more.

Marcia will be deeply missed, but we take comfort in knowing she leaves behind a legacy of deep friendships, heartfelt service, and the very best of what NPAworldwide stands for. We wish her all the best in her retirement!
