What is your #1 tip for how to work NPAworldwide?

Respect each other’s time. That is the foundation of a successful split partnership.

For exporters, send appropriate candidates whom you would feel comfortable presenting to your own clients. Vet them carefully, and if there is something you haven’t confirmed, let your partner know upfront.

For importers, keep your partners updated on the roles they are helping you fill. Communicate changes, let them know promptly when a position is filled or canceled, and provide useful feedback on each submission.

Good communication and mutual respect build trust—and trust leads to more successful splits.

How did you get into recruiting?

In 1998, I left an automotive dealership where I had been in business with my family for approximately 20 years. I knew I wanted to start another business and continue working for myself, but I wasn’t sure what that business would be.
Then I ran into an old friend, Joe Bilodeau. Joe had left his job as a sportswriter for a local newspaper and gone into IT recruiting—a field he initially knew nothing about. He told me he had doubled his income and no longer had to spend his weekends covering local high school games. That certainly got my attention!

Joe and I opened a recruiting firm together in 1998. He eventually decided that business ownership, along with its occasional “minor headaches,” wasn’t for him. The good news is that Joe later returned to Perfect Fit Placement as a recruiter and became one of our top producers for nearly 20 years. It turned out to be a great outcome for both of us.

What is your favorite hobby?

Golf, without a doubt. I still work part-time, but I manage to play three or four times a week. I enjoy the challenge, the friendships, and the opportunity to spend time outdoors. It’s a wonderful social game, and there’s always something to improve—which keeps me coming back!
