Dear Nicky,
I have a lot of jobs right now but don’t seem to be getting much action. I update them on a regular basis and I'm not sure what else I should be doing.
Need Help in Newaygo
Dear Newaygo,
Many members wish they had jobs to work on right now, so it sounds like you have a good problem! Here is some tried-and-true advice about how to get more action on your jobs:
- Check the Money Letter for similar placements. If you don't see any activity for jobs like yours, that could be an indication that there aren't trading partners who can provide candidates for you. If you do see similar placements, contact those candidate recruiters directly to see if they can assist.
- Set up a candidate alert on NPAmarketplace to deliver new matching candidates for your job. Contact your engagement specialist if you need help with this.
- Invest some time in creating great job ads. Don't just use the client's job description. You need to get your partners excited about working your job *and also* help them sell it to their candidates. Consider including 2-3 questions that partners can ask of their candidates to help qualify potential candidates.
- On NPAmarketplace, create a list of members who work similar jobs. Send your job to them directly via the List feature.
- Join the appropriate monthly Practice Group call(s) so that members know who you are and are aware of your job.
- Make sure your jobs are worth your NPA partners' time. This means appropriate salaries and fees, good client relationships, etc. If you have tried working the job on your own for weeks before asking for help, or your client has a bad hiring process and is slow with feedback, don't expect your partners to jump through hoops to help you.
- Make sure you are communicating promptly with your partners. This is the number one complaint we receive and is also a major reason why candidate-side recruiters will stop working with you. Acknowledge receipt of their referrals, provide feedback on their candidates, keep them informed of interview activity and other updates from the client—the same way you would treat your best client.
For what it's worth, updating your jobs on a regular basis is not where we would recommend starting. If you *do* want to update your jobs, make sure you are updating them properly:
- Log into Marketplace: click Member Login on npaworldwide.com and then select the NPAmarketplace Powered by Oorwin link on your dashboard
- Click on the three dots icon of the job you wish to clone
- Click on Clone a Job -> A pop-up will be displayed
- Change the necessary details
- Click on Post Job
After you do this make sure to deactivate the old one, so you don't have duplicates posted. If you are also posting it to the Job Board, you will need to rewrite the content as well or it will not get picked up by aggregators.
