Dear Nicky,
I have tried using the Matching Jobs feature on Marketplace and I’m not getting matches. Am I doing something wrong, or is it broken?
Matchless in Manton
Dear Matchless,
The Matching Job / Matching Candidates feature is a bit finicky. The entire exact phrase of the candidate’s title must be in the job title in order for it to match (and vice versa, your job’s entire title must be in a candidate’s job title in order for them to match to your job).
For example, if I upload a candidate whose job title is “Sr. Project Manager”, he will match these jobs:
- Sr. Project Manager, Software Development
- Sr. Project Manager - Water/Wastewater Industry
- Sr. Project Manager
- AVP Sr. Project Manager - Hybrid or Remote
But he will NOT match these jobs (because the entire phrase ‘Sr. Project Manager’ is not in these titles):
- Senior Project Manager
- Senior Project Engineer
- Senior Project Manager – water / wastewater
As a best practice, we suggest making your candidates’ titles and your jobs’ titles very basic. If it is long, and/or you have slashes and dashes in the title (i.e. Senior Vice President / Vice President Project Executive - Division Manager Director), it’s not going to match anything. Same if you have a location in your job title, it’s not going to match any candidates because they don’t put their location in their title.
When you upload a candidate, click the ‘Matching Jobs’ briefcase icon to see if there’s any matches. If not, edit their title and try again.
