This past weekend, I had a visitor from Northern California, and what a wonderful young man he is! He is the son of a great couple I know in Hyderabad, India, Parvathy and Krishnan.

What a beautiful reminder that the connections we make with people can have an impact far beyond what we realize and far beyond recruiting!

He had flown into Louisville, KY, for a weekend getaway with his buddies and wanted to take some time to stop by and visit me. I’m not sure he fully realized just how far away I was from Louisville, KY.  He made a commitment and followed through with a 2½-hour drive to spend some time with me and my family.

It got me thinking about the “other effects” that come from knowing people. Sometimes, we don’t realize how far our relationships reach or the unexpected connections and meaningful moments they create for us as humans.

What a great time we had! I told him the visit was much too short, and he needs to come back for a longer visit next time. I am grateful for the wonderful people life brings my way and for the connections that span miles, cultures, and generations.

I have met so many NPA Members over the years and can tell you I have friends around the globe. We are all looking for our next deal, but sometimes we have to remember that the relationships we make now can really pay off in the long run.  I have so many stories of members that were friends first and then ended up making placements together.

The moral of the story here is: get on calls, make those connections and never be afraid to just be human.
