I was reading an article titled The Principles of Membership.. I was wondering if I knew the principles of NPA membership so here is my attempt at it.

Members need to have a connection with NPAworlwide, and recognize the differences between your partners and how they are all independent businesses working together with one goal in mind: split placements.

Here are four principles that successful members have in common.

  • The first principle is expectation. I think some folks join, enter a record or two, and expect the money to start coming in. That’s not a realistic expectation. We always say, ‘You get out of NPAworldwide what you put into it,’ and that means being proactive and engaged.
  • The second principle is involvement. If you don’t get and stay involved in NPAworldwide, folks will lose sight of who you are and what you do. Visibility and consistency are key.
  • The third principle, and probably the most often overlooked principle, is relationships. So build some and keep at it. You shouldn’t only be talking to your partners when you need something.
  • The fourth of the principles is small-group involvement. These would be Practice Groups; have you joined one?? If so, do you participate in your group calls with candidates, positions or your insights?

The most important is communication, we can’t stress enough that communication is key to building long-term partner relationships!!!
