Dear Nicky,

I've recently made my first split since joining the network. My client hasn't paid yet (which is OK, it's not late), but I am wondering if I am supposed to pay my partner before I get paid?

Paying in Pentwater

Dear Pentwater,

This is a GREAT question! Thanks for asking.

You are not obligated to pay your split partner before you get paid by the client. HOWEVER, once you receive that payment, you must pay your partner their share IMMEDIATELY (within 1 business day). Members must always, always remember that in a split placement, only half of the fee can rightly be considered your money. The other half is your partner's money, and it is considered misappropriation of funds if you don't pay your partner immediately.

If your client does become late in making payment, it is incumbent upon you to work diligently to collect as quickly as possible, and to keep your trading partner informed about the steps you have taken. Without this important communication, mistrust can build, leading your partner to think perhaps you really *did* get paid and just aren't admitting it. They may request indemnification from NPAworldwide, and you may find yourself facing a very damaged reputation and possible expulsion from the network.

Nicky
