COVID has provided many of us the opportunity for some reflection.
Memories are a funny thing. Some things stick and others don't. I remember lines from my favourite movies- "Go ahead, make my day!", "You can't handle the truth," "You're Abe Froman, the Sausage King of Chicago?"
I wish I remembered useful quotes as much as trivial ones. There are a few recruitment quotes I remember from over the years. I love Greg Doersching's phrase that "Recruitment is the only industry where you write your own paycheck," Red Adair's "If you think it’s expensive to hire a professional, wait until you hire an amateur," and "Hire character, train skill" by Peter Schulz.
I also remember Greg Savage's analogy from our conference in Toronto in 2005 of his then-young son at a birthday party where candy is tossed everywhere when a pinata breaks. Instead of rushing around wildly to grab the candy, you should focus on one, collect it and then move on to the next one. So too with closing jobs.
