Dear Nicky,

I hear on all the calls that it's important to post candidates so I have been doing so. I've noticed that my candidate aren’t even getting any views, so I'm starting to wonder if there is really any point to posting them.

Frustrated in Fremont

Dear Fremont,

There are several reasons to post candidates, the biggest one being visibility. You may never place a candidate or fill a job order with a record you put in NPAmarketplace but you do get calls because of them. If you are not putting records in NPAmarketplace you are virtually invisible to your trading partners. Your posted records help trading partners understand what you do and are one of the best marketing tools you have in the network.

Right now we are entering (or already in, depending on location) a significant candidate shortage, so if you've got candidates, I can almost guarantee there is someone in the network who can place them.

One tip is to look at both the posted jobs AND the Money Letter for recent placements to help you figure out what kind of candidates are in demand. For example, if you want to post accounting candidates, but there haven't been any accounting jobs posted for several months and/or there aren't any recent placements for accounting roles, this should tell you the demand for accounting candidates is low, and you need to explore a different niche. Salary is another place to look - if the candidates you represent have salaries that are way out of range to the recent placements in the Money Letter, you may find there is less opportunity to place those types of candidates.

Finally, when a member receives a candidate via a Search Alert, a "view" ONLY gets recorded if the member clicks on the candidate record to open it in NPAmarketplace. Opening and scanning the email does not count as a view - so there are likely more members seeing your records than it seems based on views.
