Dear Nicky,

I just found some good jobs on the NPAmarketplace that I can recruit for. I notice that they say "contact recruiter" in the Permission to Advertise field. I assume it's OK to put these on my website, right?

Dear Searching,

NO, it is not OK to put these jobs on your website before you talk to the job recruiter.

Job recruiters get to determine whether another partner can advertise their positions and must indicate their selection when they create the posting. If the Permission to Advertise field says YES, you may advertise the job anywhere, including your own website. If it says NO, it really means no. Do not post that job ANYWHERE, under any circumstances. If it says "No, contact recruiter" ... it means exactly what it says. Contact the posting recruiter to discuss whether advertising might be appropriate BEFORE you advertise it anywhere (including your own website).

Sometimes, the answer will be no, because it's a confidential search and the client doesn't want it getting "out there." Sometimes the answer is, "It's OK to put it on your website, but don't put it on xxx site because I'm already advertising it there and don't want to double-dip." Keep in mind that even if you *do* have permission to advertise a partner's job, you must take care to ensure that neither your partner nor your partner's client can be identified. This may mean you'll need to rewrite parts of the posting if someone could figure out who the hiring company is by reading the description. For example, if the company "manufactures juice and fruit spreads" and the job is located in Concord, Massachusetts, it is pretty easy to figure out that it is Welch's.

By the way, regardless of the Permission to Advertise field, we always recommend that candidate recruiters contact the job recruiter prior to starting any recruitment activity for an open role. You may find out there are already 3 candidates interviewing, or an internal promotion is likely, or the salary/benefits have changed, or the job is on hold. If you start recruiting before you know any of that, you will be wasting your time, which is frustrating for everyone. Save yourself the headache.

Nicky
