It seems that artificial intelligence (AI) has captured the industry’s attention. Maybe more than just the industry, the world seems enamored with AI. What is amazing to me is that it was not until Microsoft and Google started their PR machines that everyone started paying attention. Now I get asked if NPA will integrate AI into the network a few times a month now.  Well good news, we have had our eye on AI for much longer than it has been an industry topic and the hype machines have been pouring out stories.

Case in point one…the Oorwin created NPAmarketplace is an innovative member sharing platform that harnesses the power of artificial intelligence. The NPAmarketplace is equipped with a variety of AI-driven features. Our AI driven tool is designed to optimize the job-to-candidate matching experience. Among the cutting-edge tools offered are automated candidate matching, which connects appropriate candidates with relevant positions based on their skills and qualifications. An intelligent candidate ranking systems that prioritize applicants according to their suitability for specific roles is also incorporated into the NPAmarketplace.

The Oorwin developed NPAmarketplace leverages AI technology for parsing resumes and job orders, enabling member firms to extract crucial information from these documents with greater accuracy and efficiency. By integrating all of these advanced functionalities, our platform aims to revolutionize our split performance as a network. We hope over time that this platform is recognized for delivering a seamless and targeted approach to splitting.

As a reminder, we started planning this tool in 2019 and launched it in 2021, so AI has been on our minds.

A second example is AI for marketing and communication.

NPAworldwide announced a partnership with Jasper, an AI writing and content generation tool, in 2021. We promoted this tool and special benefit to NPAworldwide well before ChatGPT was even being discussed in the industry. We have just a handful of members that opted to take up a license, but we still offer a connection to this useful AI tool. To learn more click on this link Jasper - AI Copywriter | AI Content Generator.  By the way Chat GPT was launched in December of 2022. It official fully functioning release was March 14, 2023. So, we have been into AI more than a year before Chat GPT was launched.

While we are excited to see the benefits of AI for recruitment and in a big sese, the world of work, we have been tuned in for sometime.  Personally, I do see many things becoming easier for people as a result of AI. I used the ChatGPT function to map out 3 days by car in Sicily…so cool what it could do in just seconds. But for me, that was foundational work that then required more expertise than the AI could provide to meet my needs.

I thought the best way to assess the impact of AI on the future of recruitment was to ask ChatGPT its opinion. You can do this too. Go to https://chat.openai.com/chat You will need to create an account, but it is free.

I asked ChatGPT: Will recruitment be taken over by AI? Here is what ChatGPT said:

AI is already being used in the recruitment process to some extent, particularly in the initial stages of screening and filtering candidates. However, it is unlikely that AI will completely take over the recruitment process anytime soon.

While AI can be very effective at automating certain aspects of recruitment, such as resume screening and initial candidate assessments, there are still many areas where human judgement and expertise are required. For example, human recruiters are often better at evaluating a candidate's soft skills, such as communication and teamwork, which are essential for many roles.

Furthermore, there are ethical and legal considerations that need to be taken into account when using AI in recruitment. There is a risk of bias and discrimination if the algorithms are not designed and implemented carefully, and there are laws in many countries that prohibit discrimination in hiring.

Overall, while AI will undoubtedly play an increasingly important role in the recruitment process, it is unlikely that it will completely take over. Human judgement and expertise will still be needed to make final hiring decisions and to ensure that the process is fair and unbiased.

Be aware of AI, but do not fear it. I’m sure history will show people were afraid of electricity, the car, the plane, the phone, the fax, the computer. They all ended up as tools to advance our efforts. Sure, typewriter ribbon salespeople and manufacturing plants are a thing of the past but those people and employees were given years to evolve into better opportunities. Those most tuned into the impact of technology around them are most likely to survive the changes driven by technology. Be well. Hope to see you in Atlanta.
