Dear Nicky,

It seems like things are picking up again in the recruiting space. I am good at finding candidates; any advice you can give me on working jobs and knowing who is a good partner?

Hunting in Hillsdale

Dear Hillsdale,

Great question! Here are some things to think about, as well as some things to do, as you seek to increase your split placement production.

  • When you see a job that piques your interest, pick up the phone and call. There are so many things you can learn on the phone you will never find out via email. There is no technology that can replace the personal touch.
  • Look at who is posting the jobs; if you are an exporter get to know those members.
  • Make sure you have a Search Alert set up to see the records in your area of expertise. Use broad parameters, even if you think you'll get more candidates than you want.
  • Post candidates so your potential trading partners can see what you do - those candidates will be delivered in *their* Search Alerts and other searching activity
  • Log into some Practice Group calls and get to know members that need help filling their open roles.

To find real value in trading partners and in NPAworldwide you need to make relationships - systems can only take you so far. Be sure to approach your activity in terms of how it can help you build personal relationships - phone calls are better than email, posting records is better than not posting, and participating is important. Members work with who they know, so make sure people know you!

Nicky
