One of the benefits of NPAworldwide membership is the ability to promote an international capability to your clients, serve your clients outside of their home markets, maximize your firm’s business opportunity by spending your time where the jobs are, and avoid down economic situations in your home market. Here is a story about members located in different countries that completed an international split.
Steve Morris of Van Grace Associates, LLC (NPA #1118) in Shrewsbury, MA, USA, and Roheela Khan of Martin Veasey Talent Solutions (NPA #8591) in Worcester, England, have recently shared an international placement. Steve placed Roheela's candidate, a Quality Improvement Manager, in Grand Rapids, MI, USA.
"The Grand Rapids search was quite the adventure and took 3 offers to get an acceptance," Steve said. The first candidate accepted the offer verbally but then ghosted, and the second candidate ultimately turned down the role. The third candidate, from Roheela, accepted and is set to start on the 7th! All 3 candidates were provided by NPA partners. Earlier in the week, Steve also made a placement with the same client for their NH plant. "It has been a number of years since I placed 2 people at the same company within a few days of each other that will start on the same day."
Steve said he received this candidate from Roheela the evening of June 3, and let her know he would call the candidate the next day. Coincidentally, the next morning at 5AM the candidate applied to Steve's job directly through the NPA Job Board. But because Steve saw & committed to Roheela the night prior, following NPA's "But for" rule, Roheela provided the winning candidate for this split.
This was actually Steve and Roheela's second split together! Roheela reached out to Steve after seeing his job posted in 2021, and they made their first split for a Chemist. Steve said the role was local to him and he had a number of candidates himself, but Roheela came through with the winning candidate.
"Steve was one of the first NPA members I contacted on joining and he always shares his roles with me and myself and my team try and assist as best as we can," Roheela said.
Steve said their partnership works due to open communication and trust: "She will ask for key words or details to look for that make it easier for both of us," Steve said. "Since then, she gets every role I work on directly, along with the name of the company and a link to their web site. Very easy to deal with and stays out of the way if her candidate goes thru the interview process."
After a little turbulence with this placement and two candidates who didn't work out, it seems the third time's a charm! Great work by two members "across the pond" from each other to fill a role in a state where neither is physically located. Congratulations, Steve & Roheela... here's to many more splits together!
