I recently attended an Area MeetUp in Tampa, FL, with 24 of our NPA members, hosted by Directors Jenn Anderson and Patrick Long. As with all in-person gatherings, the room was full of energy and good intentions. Along with several long-time members, we welcomed five new members who joined in 2025, as well as several “first-timers” who had never attended an in-person event before.
I was honored to share a brief update from the Board of Directors and took the opportunity to explain, especially for our newer members, how governance functions within NPAworldwide. The Board of Directors manages the Strategic Plan—both short- and long-term—while Staff oversee the day-to-day operations that bring that plan to life.
I emphasized that one of the greatest strengths of NPAworldwide is our governance structure. In a member-owned cooperative, strong governance ensures trust, fairness, and consistency across everything we do. Our Bylaws and Operations Manual provide the framework that allows independent recruiting firms around the world to operate together as one unified network.
These documents are not simply administrative. They define how we collaborate, share fees, protect client and candidate relationships, and resolve disputes. By following them, every member helps maintain the professionalism and integrity that make NPAworldwide respected globally.
Importantly, governance is not static. The Bylaws and Operations Manual evolve through the work of our member volunteers and the Board of Directors, ensuring that our cooperative remains current, transparent, and member-driven. In fact, the Bylaws have been amended nearly every single year since they were initially adopted!
When every member understands and upholds these principles, we strengthen the foundation of trust and collaboration that makes NPAworldwide thrive.
