One of the questions we hear often from members is: “What’s the best way to pay partners overseas without losing so much to bank fees?”

Traditional wire transfers work, but they’re expensive, slow, and unpredictable. Between bank fees, exchange rate markups, and delays, it’s frustrating for both sides.

At NPAworldwide, we use Bill.com. The biggest win for us is that it eliminates most of the “middleman” fees when paying in local currencies. Vendors see the conversion rate upfront, and everything ties neatly into our accounting system. The downside: if you pay in USD, some banks still tack on charges.

Two other options worth looking at:

  • Wise Business – Known for transparent exchange rates and low fees. Great if you want simplicity, can batch payments, and don’t need a lot of extra bells and whistles.
  • Tipalti – Designed for companies paying a lot of vendors worldwide. It automates tax forms, compliance, and mass payouts. It’s powerful, but probably more than most smaller firms need.

At the end of the day, the right solution depends on how many payments you send, where your partners are located, and how much control you need. Using a personal PayPal, Venmo (or similar) account for business transactions can create an unpleasant tax obligation as your business revenue may be assessed as personal income.

My advice: test one or two of these tools, compare them against your current wire costs, and share your experience with other members. Together, we can find smarter ways to move money across borders without losing so much along the way.
